Alex Eala seems to be on a roll.
The Filipino pride kept her winning ways after dismantling Lina Gjorcheska of North Macedonia, 6-4, 6-2, to enter the quarterfinal round of the W50 Trnava at the TC Empire in Slovakia.
Eala, rated No. 180 in the latest Women’s Tennis Association, got the job done in one hour and 25 minutes as she shoots for her fifth pro crown.
At press time, Eala is playing against Anastasiia Gureva of Russia, currently at No. 326 in the WTA rankings.
In the doubles, Eala, 18, and her partner Zeynep Sonmez of Turkey, walloped Ilona Georgiana Ghioroaie of Romania and Aneta Kucmova of the Czech Republic, 5-7, 6-3, 10-5, to advance to the semifinal.
It took the pair one hour and 37 minutes to get the win as Eala and Sonmez inched closer to the title.
The Filipino and Turkish duo will have to beat Lulu Sun of Switzerland and Moyuka Uchijima of Japan to enter the championship round.
Sun and Uchijima are coming off a 4-6, 6-3, 10-7 upset over Estelle Cascino of France and Jesika Malečková of the Czech Republic, who are seeded second in this $40,000 netfest.
Eala is also seeking her second women’s doubles title after W50 Pune win in India last January.
