It will not take long before Carl Tamayo finds a new job.
According to his agent, Charlie Dy, at least seven Japanese teams and a Korean club are looking to hire the 6-foot-8 forward following his stellar performance in the international arena.
Dy refused to identify the squads but stressed that Tamayo will be focusing on his duties with Gilas Pilipinas before tackling his pursuers.
“None at the moment,” Dy said when asked if Tamayo already has a new team after getting released by the Ryukyu Golden Kings in the Japan B. League last January.
“We decided to wait for next season so he will focus on Gilas for the meantime.”
After averaging 3.9 points and 2.5 rebounds in 12.5 minutes of action this season, Tamayo parted ways with the Golden Kings to “explore new horizons.”
He returned home to join Gilas Pilipinas in beating Hong Kong and Chinese Taipei in the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers last week.
He played both games, scoring two points against Hong Kong before bouncing back with a solid 11-point, six-rebound effort against Chinese Taipei.
Speculations swirled that Tamayo will be joining the Manila Stars in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League, something that his management agency, Virtual Playground, strongly denied.
“Gilas Pilipinas player Carl Tamayo will not be playing for the Manila Stars in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League,” VP said in a statement.
“Tamayo is only committed to Gilas Pilipinas while weighing options on his professional basketball career.”
Dy, however, believes that Tamayo will land a job very soon.
“He has seven offers in Japan and one in Korea,” he said.
