Philippine women’s national football team forward Sarina Bolden is on a collision course with some of her teammates as the Newcastle Jets FC faces Perth Glory FC in their A-League Women’s match at the Maitland Sportsground in Australia Sunday.
Kick-off is at 1 p.m. (Manila time) as Bolden faces off with Filipinas teammates Jessika Cowart and Quinley Quezada in the hopes of strengthening their bids to make it into the top six for the Finals series.
The three footballers last teamed up at the 2024 Pinatar Cup last February where the Filipinas suffered a 1-0 loss to Slovenia in the bronze medal match.
Now, they’re at opposite sides as they attempt to improve their respective teams’ standings.
While both squads have 23 points each, Newcastle has a 7-2-8 win-draw-loss record while Perth has a 6-5-6 slate.
Bolden, the Philippines’ lone goalscorer in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, is also in the running for the league’s Golden Boot award as she is currently at second place after scoring 11 goals in 12 games.
The current goal scoring leader in A-League Women is Michelle Heyman of Canberra United with 13 goals in 17 games.
Bolden just needs to score at least twice to take the lead from Heyman.
