Alex Eala continues to climb the Women’s Tennis Association rankings following her impressive stints in the past couple of tournaments.

From No. 180, the 18-year-old Eala climbed to No. 176, her highest ranking since joining the professional ranks in 2020.

Eala came up with strong finishes in the past WTA tourneys.

She reached the women’s singles quarterfinals of the W50 Trnava in Slovakia before losing to Anastasia Gureva, 2-6, 6-3, 6-7, last week.

Then, she partnered with Zeynep Sonmez of Turkey to reach the semifinals before losing to Lulu Sun of Switzerland and Moyuka Uichijima of Japan in the doubles event of the same tourney.

Although Eala has yet to win a singles title in the early stretch of the year, she made up by advancing to the semifinals of the W50 Indore event in India last month in which she lost to Polina Kudermetova, 4-6, 7-6(5), 2-6, last month.

Eala, a two-time Asian Games bronze medal, is still seeking her second career doubles crown after partnering with Daria Semenistaja of Latvia in the W50 Pune in India last January.

Right now, Eala is still in Slovakia and just defeated Nastasja Mariana Schunk of Germany, 6-0, 6-3, in the first round of the W75 Trnava women’s singles qualifying round last Monday.
