Philippine women’s national football team goalkeeper Olivia McDaniel can’t wait to help out Santos FC in its campaign in the 2024 Campeonato Brasileiro de Futebol Feminino Série A1.
McDaniel said in a social media post of the club over the weekend that she is excited to play for one of the most notable clubs in the country where greats such as Pele and Marta once played.
She is set to team up with Filipinas defender Reina Bonta, nursing hopes of giving the club its first women’s league title after making it as far as the semifinals last year.
“I’m excited to play for Santos because football is loved here and because of the incredible support we will have from the fans. Football is really appreciated to the fullest in Brazil and it will be exciting to have this experience of playing here with Santos,” McDaniel said.
“I look forward to a great season.”
Apart from Bonta, McDaniel is set to link up with Brazilian forward Ketlen, who scored eight goals last season.
The Filipinas wished McDaniel luck as the club starts its campaign on Saturday against Real Brasília at the Estádio Urbano Caldeira in Sao Paolo.
“The very best of luck to Olivia McDaniel who has signed with Santos Futebol Clube #SereiasDaVila to compete in Brazil’s top flight league #BrasileiroFemininoSerieA1 which kicks off next week,” the team posted.
“Vai Olivia!!”
