Controversial Twitch streamer Hasan “Hasan” Piker has sparked an online debate about having a “real job” and being a streamer.
For many years, countless people have refused to acknowledge gaming and streaming as a real job — even streamers and gamers themselves sometimes.
But when the sentiment came from a political streamer like Hasan, who has 2.6 million followers on the world’s largest live streaming platform Twitch, fellow streamers and content creators had to chime in and share their thoughts on social media.
“Yes, a real job can be gruesome. A real job can make you very tired, but a real job does not suck the soul out of you. You know what I mean? In the same way that nine hours of streaming absolutely will,” Hasan said in a livestream.
His statement had spread like wildfire on the internet, Twitter included, where a portion of his livestream went viral. It was a free-for-all from there, with superstar streamers Felix “xQc” Lengyel sharing their thoughts on the subject.
“Maybe there’s like a few jobs, but in the grand scheme of things I would much rather f*cking sit here on my dumb ass than go out there and f*cking deal with dumbass f*cking customers or clients or assh*ole bosses and sh*t,” xQc reacted.
Hasan, meanwhile, found an ally in another popular streamer Asmongold.
“You really think that is not true? You really think it is not true that after you spend nine hours being investigated by thousands of people with every facial movement, everything you say, every word, with people constantly trying to disagree with you and fight with you, that is not socially draining? This is totally understandable. And he is not comparing it to any other job,” he said in a YouTube video.
