Manila Digger FC clipped Philippine Army, 3-2, Saturday to open its Philippines Football League (PFL) campaign with a big bang at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.

Earl Piñero broke the ice in the 22nd minute for the Diggers before providing an assist for Eric Giganto in the 39th minute to make it 2-0.

The Troopers fought back as John Robert Solen scored a header goal in the 42nd minute and John Celiz netted an equalizer in the 51st minute.

Japanese midfielder Daiki Jahana scored the third goal for Manila Digger in the 62nd minute for the final score.

Manila Digger now has three points on the league table this season.

Piñero said it was all about getting back up and not dwelling long on their mistakes.

“What we did was improve from our mistakes because a lot of negative things will happen. We need to improve ourselves on the field,” said Piñero, who has been hailed as the Man of the Match.

“We have to give our 100 percent because the management gives its best to help us.”
