6 p.m. — Philippines vs South Korea
The Philippine women’s national football team faces off against South Korea once more when they collide in a friendly game at the Icheon Sports Complex in South Korea on Monday.
Kick-off starts at 6 p.m. as the No. 39 Filipinas hope to notch a win against the No. 22 Koreans in the second of two friendly matches.
South Korea blasted the Philippines, 3-0, last Friday after goals from Choe Yu-ri, Ji So-yun and Jang Sel-gi.
These friendly tournaments are the Filipinas’ way of staying in shape for future tournaments.
FIFA Women’s World Cup veterans Sarina Bolden of Newcastle Jets FC, Reina Bonta and Olivia McDaniel of Santos FC and Hali Long and Inna Palacios of Kaya FC-Iloilo will once again be at the forefront for the Philippines in this match against the Koreans.
Veterans Quinley Quezada, Katrina Guillou, Sara Eggesvik, Tahnai Annis, Angela Beard, Jessika Cowart and Sofia Harrison are also expected to do well for the Filipinas.
More than the win, Filipinas head coach Mark Torcaso said they want to focus on the team’s development and chemistry.
“We want to continue playing and building against strong opponents because to bridge the gap between other strong teams in Asia,” Torcaso said.
“This is a long-term project. This isn’t just about the next two to three months. This is about building our national team to be strong and to be able to qualify for another World Cup.”
