Barangay Ginebra San Miguel celebrated the return of prized guard Scottie Thompson with a 105-86 crushing of the hapless Blackwater to halt a two-game skid in Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup Friday night at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Thompson made his debut in the tournament after missing the team’s first six games because of back issues. He finished the game with four points on 2-of-6 shooting clip, seven rebounds and eight assists in almost 27 minutes of duty for the Gin Kings’ fourth win in seven outings.
Christian Standhardinger led Ginebra’s unstoppable onslaught, scoring 33 points of 12-of-17 field goal shooting, six rebounds and five assists in 31 and half minutes of action – a game after sitting out in the fourth quarter of the Gin Kings six-point loss to Terrafirma last Sunday.
Ginebra played scorching-hot throughout the match and even built a 30-point lead, 87-57, with 1:15 left in the third quarter courtesy of a jumper by Standhardinger.
Gin Kings head coach Tim Cone gave his bench playing time in the fourth with the game already in the bag.
Maverick Ahanmisi and Ralph Cu had 14 markers each while Jamie Malonzo got 11 for Ginebra
The Bossing suffered their fourth loss in a row after a hot three-game win run to start their suddenly sputtering campaign.
James Kwekuteye led Blackwater with 20 points while Justin Chua had 17 markers and 10 boards.
