PHNOM PENH — The Philippine swimming team bagged two more medals and made new national records on the second day of the swimming competition of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games here at the Indoor Aquatics Center inside the Morodok Techo National Sports Complex.

Jerard Jacinto bagged the silver medal in the men’s 50-meter backstroke after clocking in 25.56 seconds, resetting the 25.77 seconds he got during the heats.

Meanwhile, Teia Salvino took home the bronze medal in the women’s 50-meter backstroke.

She also set a new Philippine record in the event as she registered 28.95 seconds during the heats to shatter the previous mark of 29.35 seconds set by Jessica Geriane in last year’s SEA Games in Hanoi.

Xiandi Chua might have fallen short of a podium finish in the women’s 200-meter individual relay after placing fourth. She did set a new national record with 2:17.02 minutes, breaking her previous feat of 2:17.49 minutes back in the Australian Championships in Australia last 20 April.

National team coach Archie Lim said he is happy with the way how the swimmers performed and hopes to see more good results.

“I think it’s a big win for us that we’ve been getting a lot of national records,” Lim said.

“You can see the heart of our swimmers really fighting for it. Hopefully, it continues.”

The Philippines currently has two silver medals and two bronze medals in the swimming tournament.
