Stung by a heartbreaking medal shutout in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games, the Philippines fields a new batch of golfers to the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation Junior Championship at the Palmer course of the Orchard Golf and Country Club in Dasmariñas, Cavite starting on Tuesday.

Rianne Malixi and Enrique Dimayuga missed a podium finish, winding up fourth and fifth, respectively in individual play.

The Philippines was also eliminated early in team action.

Shinichi Suzuki will team up with Reese Ng while Edison Tabalin will form a tandem with Gabie Rosca in the stroke play, mixed gender competition hosted by the country for the first time in more than a decade.

Shinichi and Tabalin are two of the country’s strongest junior players, having won tournaments overseas.

Ng and Rosca, on the other hand, are members of the national pool.

Thailand, which bagged three of four gold medals in the SEA Games, is among 13 countries entered in the three-day event.

The others are Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia India, Sri Lanka, Guam, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Korea, Japan and the European Golf Association.

The tournament is jointly conducted by the R&A, the APGC, the National Golf Association of the Philippines and the Orchard Golf and Country Club.
