The Philippine national softball team’s winning streak came to a screeching halt after Chinese Taipei carved out a 12-8 win Thursday in the Coed Slow Pitch Softball Asia Cup in Pattaya, Thailand.
The Philippines now holds a 2-1 win-loss record in the five-nation tournament, including China, Singapore and host country Thailand.
Last Wednesday, the Filipinos delivered a 15-6 win over Singapore before hacking out a 7-6 victory over China.
Chinese Taipei now leads the standings with a 3-0 win-loss record after recording a 12-5 win over Singapore last 24 May and a 17-10 conquest of the Thais on the morning of 25 May prior to its match with the Filipinos.
Tied in second place with the Chinese at 2-1, today’s game against Thailand at 2:30 p.m. (Manila time) will be crucial for the Philippines as only the top two teams can attend the inaugural WBSC Coed Slow Pitch World Cup.
The Philippines has a better chance at entering the final as the Thais have yet to win a game in the tournament compared to China which will be facing hot a Chinese Taipei team.
