Ayo hands off on Ahanmisi’s renegotiation issue

SOCIAL MEDIA

Maverick Ahanmisi was included in the preseason roster of Converge for the PBA On Tour, but the veteran guard has yet to see action pending a new deal with the FiberXers.

But head coach Aldin Ayo is not making a big issue about it and instead wants management to take care of the renegotiations with the former US  NCAA Division 1 player.

“There’s no update yet on Maverick and I’m leaving it all up to the management,” said Ayo. “Right now, we’re busy practicing and preparing for the next season. But in terms of movements, it’s up to the management. Hopefully, there’s going to be a result soon.”

Ahanmisi is weighing his  options.

A third overall pick of Rain or Shine in the 2015 Rookie Draft, Ahanmisi has now become an unrestricted free agent and can entertain offers from other teams.

There were reports that Ahanmisi is likewise entertaining thoughts of playing overseas, although the former national team player has yet  to confirm it to Daily Tribune, which tried to reach the veteran guard and member of the 2016 Rain or Shine champion squad.

For Ayo, life goes on with or without Ahanmisi and the FiberXers went business as usual in pulling off a a convincing 119-82 beat down of Terrafirma on Friday night.

“I don’t want to be distracted,” added Ayo. “I don’t want to focus on who’s coming in or who’s leaving. On the coaching staff’s point of view, whoever is playing, then we will work with them. But in terms of player movements, we let the management decide on it.”

Ahanmisi is coming off playing his most productive conference and in the recent Governors’ Cup, he averaged  a career-best in points (19.9 points per game) and three-point field goal percentage (40%) while also pulling down 6.6 rebounds, dishing off 3.1 assists and picking up 1.2 steals.
