Bachmann steps down

SOCIAL MEDIA

Team manager Dickie Bachmann parted ways with Converge following a quarterfinal exit in the Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup.

Bachmann, a former De La Salle University star and son of basketball great Kurt Bachmann, told Daily Tribune that he already informed the FiberXers his decision to leave the squad, saying that he is not a good fit to its system.

He will be replaced by Converge senior human resources director Albert Custodio, who will also act as alternate governor.

Prior to Bachmann’s departure, head coach Jeffrey Cariaso was the first to go after failing to lead the FiberXers to the semifinals of the all-Filipino tourney.

Cariaso was let go in favor of Aldin Ayo, one of the most decorated coaches in the amateur ranks.

“We decided that I wasn’t a fit to stay at Converge,” said Bachmann, who was instrumental for the smooth transition from Alaska to Converge, said.

Sideliners claimed that Bachmann’s departure is part of the reorganization of the FiberXers.

Despite having a slew of young talents in Jeron Teng, RK Ilagan, Abu Tratter, Tyrus Hill, Justin Arana and Kurt Lojera, the FiberXers still finish the elimination round at seventh place with a 5-6 win-loss record before falling prey to TNT Tropang Giga in the quarterfinals.

But Bachmann will not move far from the PBA.

In fact, he will still remain as league executive as he retains his position as chairman of the PBA 3×3 while playing a major role in the country’s hosting of the FIBA World Cup in 2023.

He said will still be very much visible after the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas asked him to lend a helping hand in organizing the biggest, most prestigious basketball tournament in the world outside the Summer Olympics.

“I’m still in the PBA 3×3 and still the head of operations for the FIBA World Cup,” he said.

“I’ll still be around.”
