National University appointed Norman Miguel as new head coach of its women’s and girls volleyball teams, the school announced yesterday.
Miguel takes over the Lady Bulldogs’ coaching reins from Karl Dimaculangan, who was axed after two seasons of calling the shots for the former University Athletics Association of the Philippines champions.
The school released the coaching shakeup through a post on its Facebook page.
Under Dimaculangan, a former UAAP Most Valuable Player, NU ended a 65-year title drought in an unbeaten fashion in Season 84 last year with a young and talented lineup bannered by Rookie of the Year-MVP Bella Belen.
The Lady Bulldogs returned to the finals the following season but were swept by De La Salle University in their second straight title showdown.
Miguel is making his return as NU tactician after his last stint in the pandemic-canceled Season 82 back in 2020 before resigning in November of the same year.
In 2019, he had a 4-10 win-loss record and a 2-0 slate the following year before the league was forced to scrap the tournament because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
He will also take over the
three-peat-seeking NU-Nazareth School Lady Bullpups as a replacement for Vilet Ponce de Leon.
Dimaculangan, according to Miguel will remain with the Lady Bulldogs as part of his coaching staff.
