JASPER, Indiana — Round One of the 2023 Senior LPGA Championship was suspended due to weather after several delays throughout the day. Two groups have yet to tee off for their first rounds, with Sunday, 30 June, now set to be a marathon of golf.

Round One will resume with Round 2 to begin no earlier than 1 p.m. ET and players remaining in the same groups they had for Round 1.

Six players were tied for the lead at -1 when play was suspended for the day. Among those tied at -1 are 2022 Senior LPGA Championship winner Karrie Webb and two-time Senior LPGA Championship winner Trish Johnson.

Webb and Johnson are paired together for the first round and will be paired together again for round two due to the new updated format.

Other notable names who have teed off for their first round include Angela Stanford (E thru 4) and Laura Diaz (E thru 5*).

Retaining a title is not unfamiliar territory for the defending champion Webb.

In Webb’s decorated career, she has collected 41 LPGA Tour victories, including seven major championships, and has captured 15 more professional wins worldwide.

When winning comes that often, title defenses the next year become second nature.

Of the 56 professional victories Webb has earned, she has successfully defended five times, most recently at the MFS Women’s Australian Open in 2007 and 2008.

Though she is looking to win at Sultan’s Run Golf Club, this week for Webb in Jasper, Ind. is more than just trying to defend a title.

“Last year was a lot of fun, I got to go head-to-head with Annika for three days. I was a little bit of a blast from the past,” Webb said. “On the LPGA, the atmosphere is all business. You are trying to make the most out of your opportunity while you have the chance so it can get tense.”
