OLYMPIA, Washington — Mafy Singson made a dramatic run into the semifinals before dropping to a Canadian foe Thursday in the 121st Pacific Northwest Women’s Amateur Championship.
Singson safely made it through the eliminations then defeated Andrea Gomez, 3 and 1, in the round of 32 in the morning and scored a 2-up win against Ha Young Chang in the round of 16 in the afternoon.
The Filipina was 1-up in her quarterfinal match over Brooke Mahler before losing a 2 and 1 decision in the semis to Angela (Zi Lan) Zhang of Vancouver B.C.
Zhang will square off against Lauren Sung of Palo Alto, Calif. in the final match at the 36-hole final match that will take place on Friday, 14 July at Olympia Country & Golf Club.
She first drubbed Grace Lee of Bellevue, Washington, 1-up in the morning’s quarterfinal match.
Against the Davao lass, Zhang won the first hole and never looked back. She got the match to 4 up at one point and Singson could not overcome the deficit.
Sung, the No. 15 seed, earned a spot in the final match after two victories today that each lasted a full 18-holes.
