Veteran Majoy Baron credited her F2 Logistics teammates for her resurgence in the Premier Volleyball League Invitational Conference.
Back in the starting rotation, Baron has been displaying vintage form and her consistent contributions both on offense and net defense helped the Cargo Movers go deep in the mid-season tournament.
The former University Athletic Association of the Philippines Most Valuable Player delivered another stellar performance in F2 Logistics’ semifinal-clinching, 25-18, 25-18, 25-14, win over Foton to close the elimination round on a high note yesterday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Baron scored 12 points built on nine kills, two aces and a kill block as the Cargo Movers advanced to their second straight semis appearance after a bronze medal finish in the All-Filipino Conference.
F2 Logistics topped Pool B with a 4-1 win-loss record.
In five games, Baron has averaged 11 points per game with norms of 0.65 kill blocks per set.
“For me, I get to play again this way with the help of my teammate. If they set up a good pass it’s easier to execute a play,” Baron said.
“I’m also thankful to Ate Kim (Fajardo) for maximizing me on plays. It’s good to be back.”
Baron returned to the first six after an off the bench role in the All-Filipino Conference with new recruit Ivy Lacsina taking her spot.
With head coach Regine Diego sliding Lacsina at the open spiker spot, Baron returned to her original role.
“My mindset is to do my work. My focus is on helping my team and I’m grateful for the coaches’ trust in me,” she said.
Diego lauded Baron’s patience and hard work.
“Of course, I’m very happy for Majoy because I know many are saying Majoy, she’s getting old. I never really cared about that, I know this girl has the heart and I know this girl has the fire inside of her that we just need to unleash, it needs some time and recovery,” Diego said.
“Hopefully, she will do more in the future but I know that as long as she believes in her teammates, it’s going to happen, more POGs (Player of the Game) for her.”
Baron is expected to do more of the same in the round-robin semis starting tomorrow.
