Maverick Ahanmisi had gone from being one of the hottest players to a free agent.

After enjoying a breakout conference with Converge, Ahanmisi remains without a team for the upcoming season of the Philippine Basketball Association that starts on 15 October.

Ahanmisi’s agent, Danny Espiritu, admitted to Daily Tribune that there are no takers for the 32-year-old playmaker as he is still in the United States and will not return until September.

“He is still in the United States and will return in September,” Espiritu said in an online exchange.

“Previously, there were interests from TNT and San Miguel. But we’ll only get a clearer picture once he returns.”

After being taken with the third pick in the 2015 Annual Rookie Draft, Ahanmisi spent four years with Rain or Shine and three years with Alaska.

When the Aces disbanded, he was acquired by Converge and flourished under the system of head coach Aldin Ayo, posting impressive career averages of 19.9 points on 40 percent shooting from the three-point area with 6.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.2 steals in the previous Governors’ Cup.

He, however, became an unrestricted free agent on 7 June after his negotiation for contract extension with the FiberXers bogged down.

As an unrestricted free agent, Ahanmisi is free to sign with any team that can give him the best offer.

But Tropang Giga head coach Jojo Lastimosa denied that they are interested in the services of the former National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I player for the Minnesota Gophers.

“No, we’re not interested,” Lastimosa said.

“Probably, there’s no serious takers yet on him that’s why they’re making noise again.”
