Top lady spikers converge

The country’s premier spiking schools vie in the historic Shakey’s Super League National Invitationals on Saturday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.

Titlist De La Salle University of the Universities Athletic Association of the Philippines, College of Saint Benilde of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. titlist University of San Jose Recoletos, spearhead the cast of schools participating in the event that will produce the country’s top women’s volleyball school.

Hostilities begin at 9 a.m. with Notre Dame of Dadiangas University from General Santos City battling Luzon bet Enderun Colleges before the simple opening ceremony at 11 a.m.

Powerhouse De La Salle tests the mettle of NCAA’s University of Perpetual Help System Dalta at noon, Cebu’s University of San Jose Recoletos and La Salle-Dasmariñas follow suit at 2 p.m. with Adamson and Mindanao’s Jose Maria College Foundation Inc. from Davao wrapping things up at 4 p.m.

St. Benilde debuts on Sunday against Notre Dame while Lyceum, University of Santo Tomas and University of Southern Philippines Foundation also plunge to into battle against separate rivals.

The tilt will come on the heels of SSL’s two successful tournaments in the Collegiate Pre-Season Championship that featured all 18 teams from the UAAP and NCAA and the Girls’ Volleyball Invitational League that pitted the country’s 16 best high school teams.

“It’s gonna be an important tournament as we’re following through the mission of creating opportunities for young women aspirants. The future stars of the country will come from this tourney,” said Shakey’s Pizza Asia Ventures Inc. president and CEO Vic Gregorio during yesterday’s event launch at the Shakey’s E. Rodriguez in Quezon City.

Pool A has De La Salle, Perpetual and USPF while UST, La Salle-Dasmariñas and USJR make up Pool B. Adamson, Lyceum and JMCF are bunched in Pool C with Saint Benilde, Enderun and NDDU comprising Pool D.

The National Invititationals, with support from Boy Tuikinhoy of Cesafi, Alex Adeva of Northern Mindanao Volleyball Association of Coaches and Referees and San Juan Red Cross chapter, will also be shown live in all Shakey’s branches nationwide.
