ILOILO CITY — Cebu’s Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology started its stint in a dominant fashion as it victor over Capiz State University, 25-9, 25-10, 25-10, in the opening day of the 2023 Reserved Officers’ Training Corp. Games Monday at the University of San Agustin gymnasium here.

SCSIT showed no sign of problem in beating the Capiz female cadets as it wrapped up the three-set match within an hour that was witnessed by USA students as well as Senator Francis Tolentino Philippine Sports commissioner Fritz Gaston.

SCSIT coach Ray Vincent Sanoria noticed the team was pressured and obviously unfamiliar to play in a much bigger venue than they used to.

“We don’t know how they play but we just did our best. We’re a little nervous since this is the first time we get to play in a bigger venue like this,” Sanoria said.

“We can’t say anything about our chances because we have eight teams in the pool. I’m sure there are other good teams as well.”

SCSIT Team captain Ronamae Capuras, who spearhead the Talisay-based spikers with 14 points, is looking to learn more and vowed to do their best in their upcoming games.

“We will work hard so we will be prepared for our upcoming games. We will bank on our team work and we’re hoping to learn more as the tournament progresses,” Capuras, who played volleyball after getting inspired by her siblings, said.

ROTC Games volleyball director Ariel Tabañag, however, said the schedule of games might change following the arrivals of six more teams from Leyte, Cebu and Bacolod City.

Meanwhile, boxing, athletics and kickboxing will kick off on Tuesday at the Robinsons City Activity Center and SM Iloilo.
