Blackwater is high on its recruitment of Puerto Rican national team member Christopher Ortiz, who came up with a decent performance in the FIBA World Cup.

The do-it-all Ortiz caught the fancy of new Blackwater head coach Jeff Cariaso even before the Puerto Ricans arrived in the country.

When the squad bowed out after the second round, Ortiz averaged 7.2 points per game.

Listed at 6-feet-8, Ortiz has strutted his stuff in Finland, Mexico, Israel and Puerto Rico.

“We were in touch with his agent even before they come here, because we like what we saw in some of the games he played,” Cariaso said.

“It just so happened that they were really preparing for the World Cup and their team will be coming over to play here.”

“I think he’ll be a good fit for us,” Cariaso added.

Ortiz will join a team that is bannered by veteran Troy Rosario, Ato Ular, Baser Amer, JVee Casio, Yousef Taha, RK Ilagan and Mike Digregorio.

The lineup could end up stronger since Blackwater is picking the second overall pick in the Rookie Draft.
