Already enjoying the influx of promising new golfers, the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines announced the staging of a unique three-venue tournament billed as Islandwide Cup to accommodate an unprecedented number of participants.
Riviera Sports, Eagle Ridge and Mimosa will play host to the tournament that will be held simultaneously on Sunday, 17 September.
“We want to give everybody a chance to play. We want to be inclusive,” said JGFP president Oliver Gan.
He added that the Islandwide Cup is yet another drum-up event for the coming JGFP Inter-school which will start next month in six golf courses.
Grades 1 to 3 students go at it at the Riviera Sports Club in Silang, Cavite; Grades 4 to 9 players slug it out at Club Intramuros in Manila; while Grades 10 to 12 participants showcase their wares at the Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club in General Trias, Cavite.
The JGFP said 160 players saw action in last weekend’s Mimosa Junior Open, the biggest recorded field so far.
Gan expressed delight over the reception of the parents to the JGFP-organized tournaments which speaks of their trust in the association.
He added that the Islandwide Cup will serve as basis for the selection of players to at least three international events this year.
Islandwide, one of the backers of the JGFP, is a Philippine-based company that supplies various ingredients and additives to the food, personal care, pharmaceutical, veterinary and feeds industries.
