Filipino tennis player Alex Eala is now rated No. 191 in the Women’s Tennis Association as she revs up for her quest in the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou.

Eala, 18, jumped four places higher from her previous best ranking of 195 after joining a series of tournaments in Asia.

The graduate of the world-famous Rafael Nadal Academy played in two tournaments in Japan recently.

The Asian Games will be Eala’s first stint with the national team since the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi last year where she got three bronze medals.

Eala will join 32nd Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Ruben Gonzales and Francis Alcantara in the Asiad.

She has a chance to become the first Filipino tennis player in 61 years to win a gold medal since Johnny Jose in the 1962 Asiad in Jakarta.

“Another very positive week to add to the trip! See you next time Guangzhou. Redirecting our focus to the next adventure. My first Asian Games repping the homeland,” Eala said in a social media post.

Eala will be one of the highest-ranked netters in the Asiad in the 36-woman list with World No. 22 and hometown bet Zheng Qinwen the highest-ranked netter in the tournament.
