CEBU CITY — Two Filipino teams dropped their respective first games on the first day of the 2023 Chooks-to-Go FIBA 3×3 World Tour Cebu Masters at the SM Seaside City Saturday.
Manila Chooks! dropped its first game of the tournament against Vienna of Austria, 14-20 and is now in danger of missing out on Sunday’s knockout matches.
Matthias Linortner delivered seven points and four rebounds while Nico Kaltenbrunner dropped six points for Vienna.
Mac Tallo and Sesay Tosh scored five points each for Manila.
Manila Chooks is currently battling Futian of China at press time in a match for survival in Pool C of the tournament that gives out qualifying points for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
In the second game, Lubao MCFASolver fell to Miami, 15-22.
Former National Basketball Association player Jimmer Fredette led Miami with Canyon Barry and Kareem Maddox chipping in five points each.
Former Lyceum of the Philippines University player Mike Harry Nzeusseu led Lubao with eight points as they are facing Mongolia’s Ulaanbaatar in hopes of getting at least the No. 2 spot in Pool D.
Lubao entered the tournament via a qualifying draw, beating Taichung 19-10 and Auckland, 17-11, to make it to the main tournament.
