Miami wins first FIBA 3×3 World Tour leg

CEBU CITY – Miami clinched its first FIBA 3×3 World Tour title after a 22-18 win over Vienna at the SM Seaside City here Sunday evening.

Already leading, 20-19, former NBA player Jimmer Fredette, who was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament, sank a long two-pointer to end the game with 47 seconds remaining in the game.

Fredette scored nine points and grabbed four rebounds for Miami while Canyon Barry, son of NBA legend Rick Barry, scored eight points in the final.

Matthias Linortner had nine points for Vienna in a losing effort.

Prior to this, Miami’s highest finish in the 3×3 World Tour was in third place at the Lausanne leg in Switzerland las 18 to 19 August.

The American side will take home a prize money of $40,000 or around P 2.27 million.

This victory was special for Fredette since this was the first time a team from America since Prince did the trick in the 2019 FIBA 3×3 World Tour in Los Angeles.

“We felt like the fans were giving us a boost and and we’re just fortunate to make it happen,” Fredette said.
