PHI Blu Girls make Super Round

HANGZHOU, China – The Philippine Blu Girls entered the Super Round of Women’s Softball at the 19th Asian Games.

The Blu Girls blanked South Korea, 5-0 on Thursday to secure second place in Group B with two wins and one loss.

They pulverized Thailand 11-0 but yielded to host China 0-7.

The Philippine Sports Commission and Philippine Olympic Committee-backed squad will play Pool A’s top team Japan and second placer Chinese Taipei.

The top two teams of the Super Round will meet for the gold medal while the bottom two will play for the bronze.

Meantime, in swimming, the Philippine quartet of Jasmine Alkhaldi, Xiandi Chua, Tiea Isabella Salvino, and Chloe Kennedy Isleta advanced into the finals of the 4x200m freestyle held at the Hangzhou Olympic Aquatic Center.

The team placed seventh overall in the morning qualifications with a time of 8:30.42.

The evening finals are ongoing as of press time.

Meantime, three Filipino tankers missed the final cut in their respective events, with Kayla Noelle Sanchez placing 12th in 25.79 seconds and Alkhaldi finishing 13th overall in 26.20, both in the women’s 50m freestyle.

Jarold Hatch likewise failed to advance into the finals after finishing 13th in the men’s 50m butterfly in 24.31 seconds.
