University of the Philippines dismantled Adamson University, 68-51, for a good start at the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena Sunday evening.

Reigning Most Valuable Player Malick Diouf delivered a double-double performance of 20 points and 17 rebounds while CJ Cansino fired 19 points for the Fighting Maroons in his return game after absorbing an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

“I thought we were a bit slow in the first quarter and impatient defensively. Our defense caught up in the third quarter,” UP head coach Goldwin Monteverde said.

UP rookie Francis Lopez scored five points and 13 rebounds in his first UAAP game for a 1-0 win-loss record.

Matthew Montebon led Adamson with 13 points as the Soaring Falcons dropped to a 0-1 slate.
