Louie’s got two aces up his sleeve

SOCIAL MEDIA

Multititled coach Louie Alas is one happy dude.

You see, Louie’s two dribbling sons — Kieffer and Kevin — have been making a lot of heads turn lately.

The two have been a source of pride not just for the Alas family but for the country as well.

Kieffer is a member of the celebrated Under-16 squad that made waves in the recently-concluded Asian championships in Doha, Qatar.

Not only did Kieffer star for the Philippine squad.

He also wound up making the Mythical Selection, a testament to Alas’s exemplary showing against teams not just from Asia but from Oceania.

Kieffer’s performance enabled the Philippines to secure a slot to next year’s world Under-17 championships that Turkey will stage.

Now, that’s just Kieffer.

Also providing father Louie and Liza all the reason to rejoice is Kevin, who surprisingly provided telling blows during Gilas Pilipinas’ conquest of China in their sis showdown a few days back.

Not only did Kevin light up the scoreboard. His mini-explosion came during a crucial stage of the game, including a triple just before Justin Brownlee took charge.

A member of the triumphant 2013 Southeast Asian Games team, Kevin is a key Philippine Basketball Association player.

Interestingly, Kevin was a replacement Gilas player after some names had to be excluded by Chinese organizers owing to eligibility issues.

But the decision to bring him in proved to be a wise decision based on what he chipped in for Gilas against the host team.

Actually, on the eve of the competition, he was still uncertain whether he can board a flight to China or stay at home as their last-minute inclusion had to be approved.

But when was cleared to play, Kevin knew it was an opportunity to show what he’s made of.

And that’s exactly what he did: Provide quality minutes off the bench.

And give a million-dollar smile on Dad Louie’s face.
