Fierce battles are expected as the top six competitive Mobile Legends: Bang Bang teams in the Philippines formally made their way to the Mobile Legends Professional League Philippines Season 12 Playoffs set from 25 to 29 October at the EVM Convention Center in Quezon City.
Reigning champion ECHO was the first team to qualify after getting close to making history after a spotless 11-0 run in the Playoffs.
They needed one more win to break Blacklist International’s record on Week 5 of the tournament, but RSG PH spoiled that plan as it pulled off a shocking 2-0 upset of the champion.
The loss proved detrimental for ECHO as it lost the next two matches on Week 6, falling via 0-2 sweep against Minana Evos before losing to AP Bren by 1-2.
Still, ECHO is heading to the Playoffs as the top seed with an 11-3 standing and 30 points.
More importantly, the roster of Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno, Tristan “Yawi” Cabrera, “Frederic Benedict “Bennyqt” Gonzales, Sanford Marin Vinuya, Alston “Sanji” Placibo and Jaypee dela Cruz, are headed to the upper bracket which takes them out of do-or-die matches in the Playoffs opening.
Meanwhile, Bren, which represented the country in major international tournaments, capped second seed and secured a back-to-back upper bracket spot in the Playoffs after earning top seed last season and second seed in Season 12 with a 7-6 standing and 24 points.
Spearheaded by two-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Angelo Kyle “Pheww” Arcangel and backed by Kyle “KyleTzy” Sayson, Rowgien “Owgwen” Unigo, Marco Stephen “SUPER MARCO” Requitano, David “Flap” Canon and Vincent “Pando” Unigo, AP Bren got to the upper bracket slot that takes them out of a do-or-die series in the opening day of the Playoffs.
Three-time MPL champion Blacklist, on the other hand, ended at No. 3 with the absence of its dynamic duo of Johnmar “OhMyV33nus” Villaluna and star junger Danerie James “Wise” del Rosario. They finished the regular season with an 8-6 standing with 22 points.
RSG PH clinched No. 4 with a 7-7 standing and 22 points followed by ONIC PH and fan-favorite Omega Esports.
Just like the last three seasons, TNC Pro Team ended at the bottom of the ladder with a dismal 3-11 outing and 11 points while Minana Evos failed to make the Playoffs as well with a sorry 6-8 standing and 19 points.
