Choco Mucho winger Des Cheng is ruled out for the remainder of the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament tear on her right knee.
The club announced Saturday an update on Cheng’s injury she sustained in the Flying Titan’s straight sets win over Cignal last Thursday in Antipolo.
“Des suffered an injury on her right knee during the PVL game against Cignal,” Choco Mucho said in a statement.
Cheng hurt her knee in the second set of the match without any contact.
“After careful review of her MRI results, our doctors have diagnosed that it is an ACL tear that will require surgery and rehabilitation. Management will ensure that Des is given the best possible treatment and medical care in order to get her back on fighting form,” the club said.
Rehabilitation and recovery from an ACL injury requires a minimum of six to eight months.
“The team is saddened over this development, but is hopeful for her return,” the team added.
Cheng, who joined the club last year, is the third Flying Titan to suffer a knee injury after Maddie Madayag (2021) and Aduke Ogunsanya (2022).
Choco Mucho is currently on a two-game win streak after dropping its opening day game against defending champion and sister team Creamline.
