Philippines Football League champion Kaya FC-Iloilo will have to make the best out of its final games in the Asian Football Confederation Champions League.
Speaking after the club’s 1-2 loss to J1 League champion Yokohama F. Marinos of Japan at the Rizal Memorial Football Field last Tuesday, Kaya head coach Colum Curtis said they will have to keep on moving as they prepare for their away game against Shandong Taishan FC on 28 November.
“First, we’re going to get a couple of days off then when we return, we will again prepare against Shandong. It’s back to the drawing board for the boys and we have to come up with a different game plan and adjust in the Champions League,” Curtis said.
“We want to finish strong.”
Kaya is already out of contention for the next phase of the tournament after a 0-0-4 win-draw-loss record in Group G.
Apart from Shandong, Kaya will play against Incheon United on 13 December at the Rizal Memorial Football Field Stadium.
Before that, Kaya will play against Davao Aguilas FC in the final of the Copa Paulino Alcantara on 9 December in the same venue.”
Daizo Horikoshi, one of the key players of the club, said their loss to Yokohama should be a motivating factor for them in their future matches.
“We had a good experience with this game so we have to learn from this and we’re going to improve more,” Horikoshi said.
“The most important thing is to remember this experience and do our best every single day.”
