Jose Rizal University averted a late-game crisis to repulse Letran College, 79-74, in Season 99 National Collegiate Athletic Association men’s basketball tournament yesterday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.

Agem Miranda came out on top with 17 points as the Heavy Bombers snapped their two-game losing skid and improved to fourth place with a 9-6 win-loss record as the Final Four race starts to heat up.

With 21 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Deo Cuajao drained a top-of-the-key triple to inch closer to JRU, 74-77.

Patrick Ramos and JL delos Santos, however, split each of their two free throws to put the finishing touches on the game.

Delos Santos scored 14 points behind a 4-of-6 shooting from the field for the Bombers while Joshua Guiab shot 14 points.

Kobe Monje wound up with 18 points as the Knights remain in 10th place with a 1-14 record.

Earlier, Emilio Aguinaldo College walloped Arellano University 77-64 to keep its Final Four bid afloat.

King Gurtiza fired 23 points as the Generals improved to an 8-7 record in sixth place.

Jeadan Ongotan had 11 points as the Chiefs remain at ninth place with a 2-12 slate.
