Alex Eala fell short in her quest to win her fifth women’s singles title following a 1-6, 5-7 against Oceane Dodin of France in the final of the W40 Petange at the Tennis Club Petange in Petange, Luxembourg last Sunday.
Eala, No. 190 in the latest Women’s Tennis Association rankings, battled the world No. 93 Dodin for one hour and 23 minutes but it wasn’t enough as she ran out of gas.
Still, Eala is still happy to reach the final before taking a break for the holidays.
“I enjoyed every match this week and am more than delighted to be going home with a trophy,” Eala said in a social media post.
The Rafael Nadal Academy graduate had a stellar career in 2023 as she took home two women’s singles trophies at the W25 Yecla in Spain last June and the W25 Roehampton in England last August.
She even picked up two bronze medals in her Asian Games debut in Hangzhou after competing in the women’s singles and the mixed doubles event with Francis Alcantara.
