Depleted PLDT kept its slim semifinals hopes alive after sweeping also-ran F2 Logistics, 25-2l, 27-25, 25-23, in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference on Thursday night at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Filipino-Canadian Savannah Davison poured 22 points with 18 coming off attacks including the game-sealing kill that hiked the High Speed Hitters’ win-loss record to 6-4 tied with end of elimination round opponent Petro Gazz.
Dell Palomata got 11 points while Jules Samonte had nine markers for PLDT, which played sans injured main setter Rhea Dimaculangan (finger) and winger Erika Santos.
Anj Legacion stepped up in the absence of Dimaculangan, dishing out 18 excellent sets for the High Speed Hitters, who ended a three-game losing skid.
“Happy we bounced back from the five-set loss to Choco and from the absence of some of our injured members. It’s to see Anj and Jules stepping up,” PLDT coach Rald Ricafort said.
The Cargo Movers absorbed their fifth straight defeat to close their disappointing outing with a 4-7 record.
Compounding F2 Logistics’ woes was an unfortunate injury sustained by Jolina dela Cruz.
The first year winger hurt her right leg while trying to chase the ball for a dig in the second set with the Cargo Movers trailing, 10-12.
Myla Pablo got 14 points, Ara Galang fired 12 while Ivy Lacsina had 11 for F2 Logistics, which played the season-ending conference without injured opposite hitter Kim Kianna Dy.
