Alex Eala’s stay in the country is not just for pleasure as she is neck-deep in training for the main draw of the Australian Open next year.
In a radio interview, Eala’s father, Mike, said the 18-year-old tennis sensation spent a couple of days in Boracay but is now back in training in preparation for her first Grand Slam event of the season.
In fact, Eala is training regularly at the Manila Polo Club under the watchful eyes of Rafael Nadal Academy coaches headed by Dani Gomez.
Mike said his son is leaving no stone unturned in preparation as she enters the “peak week” of the 2024 preseason with the goal of making a return to the main draw of the Australian Open.
“She’s very good but also very exhausted,” Mike told Radio Pilipinas 2 on Wednesday.
“It’s the peak week of the preseason 2024 training with her coaches from the RNA.”
Eala will be leaving Manila on 26 December to see action in the WTA 125 Canberra International, which starts on 31 December.
Then, she will compete in the Australian Open qualifier on 8 January with the hopes of making it to the main draw.
If ever, it’s going to be Eala’s second straight time to reach the main draw of the Australian Open as she made an early exit last year following a straight-set loss to Misaki Doi of Japan.
