F2 Logistics players took to social media to express their emotions after the club officially announced its withdrawal from the Premier Volleyball League.
In a shocking turn of events, the Cargo Movers, one of the most successful and popular volleyball clubs in the country, folded after eight colorful years.
Citing its shift on supporting volleyball at the grassroots level, F2 Logistics confirmed its decision to disband the team last Wednesday.
“I never thought this day would come, but here we are. It’s an honor to have worked in this company and get to play the sport that I love with the sisters I never had,” long-time Cargo Movers skipper Aby Marano said in a series of Instagram posts.
The Cargo Movers, bannered by the core of the successful De La Salle University stars in Maraño, Mika Reyes, Majoy Baron, Kim Fajardo, Kianna Dy and Dawn Macandili-Catindig debuted in the defunct Philippine Superliga in 2016.
Under the watchful eye of multi-titled coach Ramil de Jesus, F2 Logistics went on to win five PSL championships. The Cargo Movers also ruled the inaugural Philippine National Volleyball Federation Champions League for Women in 2021.
It also represented the country in the FIVB Women’s Club World Cup in 2016 in which it paraded Fajardo, Rachel Anne Daquis, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Jaja Santiago, Frances Molina and Jen Reyes, together with six foreign players.
F2 Logistics joined the PVL in 2021 but only officially made its maiden run in the 2022 Open Conference finishing sixth. The club skipped the Invitational Conference but participated in the season-ending Reinforced Conference ending up at fifth.
The Cargo Movers made it to the podium early this year as they grabbed bronze in the First All-Filipino Conference under new head coach Regine Diego but struggled with injuries in the next two tournaments for underwhelming fourth and eighth places in the Invitational and Second AFC, respectively.
“Closing these eight long years that we had together is tough. Tough,” Marano, who won six Best Middle Blocker awards playing for the franchise, added.
Macandili-Catindig expressed gratitude for the opportunity given by the club.
“I’m so happy to have shared most of my career milestones with this team,” the 2016 PSL All-Filipino Conference Most Valuable Player said.
“It’s been seven years, and I would have never imagined myself playing outside of my comfort zone. We learn some of the most valuable lessons in life during times of discomfort, and only in this discomfort are we able to find growth. So cheers to our growth.”
Ivy Lacsina, who joined the team last year, expressed appreciation to the Cargo Movers’ trust in her.
“I will never regret choosing this team as my first pro team. I may not be a La Sallian but they welcomed me with open arms. Thank you for the love,” the National University product said.
Hours after the club made its withdrawal public, the PVL with a heavy heart accepted F2 Logistics’ decision.
“It is with a heavy heart that we acknowledge the withdrawal of F2 Logistics from the Premier Volleyball League,” the PVL said.
“Their presence in the league was marked by intense competition, delivering exciting matches and creating countless memories for our fans. We express our gratitude to F2 Logistics for their dedication to the league and Philippine volleyball.”
