Used billboard tarpaulins are often disposed of as garbage. But for the fisherfolk of Paombong, Bulacan, these billboard tarpaulins could be recycled to serve as protection to prevent soil erosion in the banks of their river, especially during rainy days. Whenever the soil in the river banks erodes, the livelihood of the fisherfolk is greatly affected as excessive soil seeping into the river could kill the fish.

Chery Auto Ph decided to celebrate its anniversary by helping the fishing community of Paombong, Bulacan, by donating used billboard tarpaulins as well as distributing food to over 1,000 individuals. The donated tarpaulins came from Chery’s used billboard advertisements.

As token of gratitude, the fisherfolk provided 160 kilos of fish to Chery Auto Philippines which in turn, the company donated to Kawa Pilipinas, in support of the latter’s regular feeding programs for the less fortunate.

“Hunger has been a major problem in the country. With this initiative, Chery Auto Philippines would like to be part of the solution in nourishing a future, one food pack at a time. With this, we would like to convey that there’s more to our brand than offering vehicles that cater to our customers’ needs. We also offer to pay it forward and give hope to those who are in need,” said Chery Auto Philippines managing director Froilan Dytianquin.

Beneficiaries

The food packs that were prepared using the donated fishes were given to the children and elderly of the Missionaries of the Poor; the fire victims in San Andres Manila; and persons deprived of liberty in Malabon, Las Piñas and Mandaluyong.

Helping to pack these meals were players of the Chery Tiggo Crossovers volleyball team. They also helped in distributing the food packs and assisted in feeding the children at the Missionaries of the Poor in Manila.

“As we celebrate our 4th anniversary this year, Chery Auto Philippines would also like to create a positive impact in the automotive industry by giving importance to social responsibility in its business practices,” Dytianquin added.

Four years since Chery was relaunched into the Philippine automotive market, Chery Auto Philippines is gearing towards making a meaningful difference to express its gratitude for the successes it has achieved through the years.
