The grind continues for Chery Tiggo’s front office as it prepares to build a stronger and more competitive team heading into the Premier Volleyball League 2024 season.
Crossovers assistant coach Kungfu Reyes said that the club’s management is continuously looking at different options to beef up its lineup to get back on the podium.
“The coaching staff has been having a series of dialogue with the management and team owner. They also know what is needed by the team,” Reyes said.
The months leading to the league’s 17 February kickoff is an open season for teams to recruit and land quality pieces.
With F2 Logistics’ disbandment and most players from other clubs having their contracts expire by the end of 2023, expect the Crossovers to be on the hunt for significant signings.
“The club with coach Aaron (Velez) and the rest of the coaching staff are looking and discussing those things that would help the team,” Reyes added.
Chery Tiggo copped blue-chipped college recruits before the mid-season Invitational Conference, landing University of Santo Tomas stars versatile winger Eya Laure and middle blocker Imee Hernandez and National University standouts Ces Robles, libero Jen Nierva and setter Joyme Cagande.
However, the Crossovers still missed the semis and finished eighth.
Chery Tiggo had a better showing in the 2nd All-Filipino Conference as it clinched a semis seat since its last Final Four appearance in the 2022 Reinforced Conference.
Unfortunately, the Crossovers lost Hernandez to a knee injury and were swept by eventual champion Creamline in the semis.
It suffered another sweep at the hands of Cignal in the battle for bronze as Chery Tiggo closed its campaign with a five-game losing skid.
The Crossovers ruled the 2021 Open Conference but fell from grace in the next conferences after the departure of top gunners Jaja Santiago and Dindin Santiago-Manabat.
