Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters star Rhenz Abando will be out for at least four weeks after a freak accident in their Korean Basketball League match with Goyang Sono last Thursday.
In a video posted on social media by Korean basketball blogger @baekpd1983, Abando tried to get the rebound before Gouang import Chinanu Onuaku pushed him in mid-air.
The high-flying Filipino reinforcement then crashed on the floor, his back hitting the deck.
Per Korean basketball site Jumpball Korea, The La Union native suffered fractures of the 3rd and 4th lumbar vertebrae (lower back bones), sprained wrist ligaments and a concussion.
Abando needs to recover for at least four weeks, making him unavailable to defend his KBL All-Star Dunk Contest crown and won’t be able to play in Anyang’s East Asia Super League games against the Chiba Jets and the TNT Tropang Giga in January.
As for Onuaku, he was fined W3 million (P128,000) for unsportsmanlike conduct last Saturday by the league.
