The Philippine Squash Academy hopes to bring in Malaysian Low Wee Wern to coach the national team in its bid to secure a seat in the 2028 edition of the Olympics.

Although still waiting for the Philippine Sports Commission’s approval, PSA president Robert Bachmann is thrilled to have the former world No. 5 player onboard to share her expertise.

“I’ve seen her plans and programs in writing.  I also know first-hand that she is more than capable and we’d be lucky to have her as part of the national team. I’m excited to see her first day at work,” Bachmann told DAILY TRIBUNE on Saturday.

The PSA is plotting to make it to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics after squash was added along with baseball/softball, cricket (T20), flag football and lacrosse (sixes).

Low, 33, won two gold medals for Malaysia in the 2010 and 2014 Asian Games in team squash events as well as a silver medal in the women’s singles in the Incheon Asiad.

Bachmann believes that Low’s experience and international exposure will boost Kayod Pilipinas’ Olympic bid.

“Hopefully she stays for a long while.  But her contract is renewable every year,” he said.
