Another Filipino athlete is looking forward to appear in the 2024 Paris Olympics as Franchette Quiroz jumped to No. 8 in the latest International Shooting Sport Federation world rankings.
Quiroz, 28, cracked the Top 10 in the 25-meter pistol women’s category after jumping from No. 127 while also getting up to No. 12 in the 10-meter air pistol women.
The shooter admitted she was caught by surprise by the development as it was a big jump in her ISSF rankings.
Quiroz was also No. 86 in the 10-m air pistol women, making a big leap in the rankings.
“We were shocked by the new ranking because I was at No. 8 in the 25-m. Going to No. 12 in the 10-m is a big jump since I came from No. 86,” Quiroz said.
“I am so motivated after seeing the ranking. Coach Murad (Hanov) wants me back in training three days after the tournament but I asked to make it a week.”
Quiroz is coming off an impressive run in the Asian Pistol Qualification in Jakarta last 11 January despite being in last place in the eight-woman final.
The Filipino shooter just needs to participate in more tournaments to boost her rankings before 30 April to make the cut.
Quiroz hopes to do well enough to make her maiden appearance in the Summer Games in Paris on 26 July.
“There is a quota that will be given based on the world rankings. I’m hoping I will make it,” Quiroz said.
