Strong Group Athletics head coach Charles Tiu believes former National Basketball Association star Dwight Howard can impose his will as an import in the Philippine Basketball Association.
Tiu said in a radio interview yesterday that the three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year will be able to do well in Asia’s oldest professional basketball league due to his experience and dedication.
Howard led Strong Group along with reinforcements Andre Roberson, McKenzie Moore and Andray Blatche, led Strong Group to a silver medal finish in the 33rd Dubai International Basketball Championship last January.
“I think he can still compete there. Dwight Howard is still Dwight Howard. I think the good thing about Dwight is that just because he’s Dwight Howard, he’s demanding the ball all the time. He’s a team player,” Tiu said.
“I think he can still play in the PBA and he will be dominant there.”
Tiu even lauded the 38-year-old’s physique as he made sure to be in the best shape possible despite his age.
“From the time he came here to Manila, he put in a lot of extra work. Always wants to get his shots off no matter what,” Tiu said.
Howard expressed his interest in playing in the PBA and even asked the league to increase the height limit so that he could join.
