Rosegie Ramos boosted her bid for a slot in the Paris Olympics after clinching two medals in the women’s 49-kilogram event in the 2024 AWF Asian Championships in Tashkent last Sunday.
Ramos, a bronze medalist in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games, emerged with a bronze medal after posting a total lift of 190 kilograms and a silver medal after recording 88 kgs in the snatch event of this tourney that stakes qualifying points for the Summer Games next year.
She had 102 kgs in clean and jerk but it wasn’t enough to send her to the medal podium.
Still, it was a mission accomplished for Ramos as she defeated compatriot Lovely Inan in the same weight category.
Aside from Ramos and Inan, Southeast Asian Games gold medalists Elreen Ando and Vanessa Sarno are also representing the country in the women’s 59-kg and 71-kg classes, respectively.
On the other hand, Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz and SEA Games silver medalist John Fabuar Ceniza opted to skip the tourney to focus on the IWF World Cup in Phuket from 31 March to 11 April.
Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas president Monico Puentevella was elated over the national squad’s strong performance.
“Silver for snatch and bronze for total lift in Uzbekistan Asian Championships for Rosegie Ramos. Onwards to the Paris Olympics,” Puentevella told Daily Tribune in a message.
