5150 CamSur to test endurance, resolve

SOCIAL MEDIA

The 5150 Triathlon CamSur is set to kick off this Sunday in Camarines Sur, featuring a race course in championship condition that promises to challenge the hundreds of participants gearing up for the event.

It’s been 15 years since the first IRONMAN race took place in the sports and adventure capital of the Philippines and the landscape has evolved to accommodate the changing times.

The Olympic distance race, consisting of a 1.5-kilometer swim, 40-km bike and 10-km run, will witness a fierce competition among a new generation of athletes eager to test their endurance and mental fortitude.

Jonathan Pagaura and Emil Lorbes lead the cast in the men’s division while Bea Quiambao and Erika Burgos are poised for a spirited clash in the women’s side of the event organized in an Olympic-style setup against the scenic backdrop of Mt. Isarog.

Registration is still open at ironman.com/5150-camsur-register.

However, the field will face not only the challenging race course but also the hot weather conditions at this time of the year, adding an extra layer of toughness to the competition.

Race director Julian Valencia expressed excitement about bringing back triathlon to CamSur, acknowledging the support of the provincial and local government of CamSur and various agencies in ensuring a memorable and safe race.

Hosted by the Province of Camarines Sur, the 5150 CamSur includes relay events for all-male, all-female and mixed teams.

The Go for Gold Sunrise Sprint, featuring Kim Remolino and Raven Faith Alcoseba, will also be part of the event.

Triathlon’s homecoming to Camarines Sur, organized by The IRONMAN Group/Sunrise Events Inc., attracts a diverse field from at least 11 nations, including Australia, Bahamas, Bermuda, France, Hong Kong, Japan, the Netherlands, Portugal, Portugal, Russian Federation, Singapore and Turkey.

Age-group titles, ranging from 15-19 to 65-69, will be contested alongside the overall championship.

The race will start with a 1.5-km swim at the wakeboard park at CamSur Watersports Complex, followed by a 40-km bike course and a 10-km run.

The relatively flat bike layout covers scenic routes, and the run course consists of two loops, starting and finishing at CWC road.
