Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala hopes to sustain the momentum of her ideal 2024 season start.
“I’m happy and confident with my level of tennis. Hopefully, it continues,” she said.
The 18-year-old netter is enjoying a good campaign in her second year as a pro after ruling the W50 Pune women’s doubles title alongside Latvian partner Darja Semenistaja in India last January.
“In regards to the doubles, our chemistry is good. She’s nice and we are friends off the court so it helps. I think that being comfortable with each other and communicating with one another helped our success that week.”
Eala is happy with her progress as she steadily improves.
After falling short in the qualifying round of the 2024 Australian Open and early in the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open in the United Arab Emirates, Eala was able to advance deeper in her other tournaments.
The Rafael Nadal Academy graduate barged into the quarterfinal of the W50 Pune women’s singles but lost 6-7, 0-6 loss to Semenistaja. She then got into the semifinal of the W50 Indore but got booted out 4-6, 7-6, 2-6 by Russia’s Polina Kudermetova.
“I think the past month, I have been through a lot already, some ups and downs. I’m happy that the people are seeing the positives and happy to see that the hard work in the preseason is showing,” the Women’s Tennis Association ranked No. 187 said.
Eala is currently training in Mallorca, Spain in preparation for the W50 Porto in Portugal and a tournament in Slovakia.
However, the International Tennis Federation site, Eala, is under the withdrawal list in the W50 Porto.
