Filipino-Canadian swimmer Kayla Sanchez made it to the semifinal of the 2024 World Aquatics Championships after finishing 13th overall in the 84 swimmers in Doha last Thursday.
Sanchez, 22, clocked in 54.88 seconds, her closest time from her personal best of 54.69 seconds in the 19th Asian Games in China last September to make the cut.
She swims again on Friday, 16 February, to try and make it to the final.
The Tokyo Olympics silver medalist also teamed up with Jerard Jacinto, Thanya Dela Cruz, and Jarod Hatch in the mixed 4×100-meter medley relay last Wednesday to set a new national record of 3 minutes and 53.91 seconds.
The Filipino quarter eclipsed the time of 3:57.01 minutes set by Jacinto, Dela Cruz, Hatch, and Jasmine Alkhaldi in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Phnom Penh last May.
