A two-week training camp is in the pipeline for the Philippine national men’s football team as part of its preparation for its upcoming matches in the second round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification.
Philippine Football Federation national team director Freddy Gonzalez said that the training camp is set after the Azkals finish their two-game showdown against Iraq on 21 March in an away match at the Basra International Stadium and 26 March home game at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
“For the Iraq matches, we only have a short window. We only have a few days for the matches. It’s going to be a short camp,” Gonzalez, a former national team player,” said.
The said two-week training camp, in a yet-to-be-specified venue, is in preparation for the Azkals’ away matches against Vietnam in May and Indonesia in June.
“In May, we will have a two-week camp with everybody so that should be great and get everybody on the same page.”
Expected to see action for the Azkals’ bid to advance into the next round are Daisuke Sato of Davao Aguilas FC, Sandro Reyes of SpVgg Greuther Fürth II, Gerrit Holtmann of SV Darmstadt 98 and Santi Rublico of Atletico Madrid.
