Games today:
(Philsports Arena)
2 p.m. — Cignal vs Galeries
4 p.m. — Petro Gazz vs PLDT
6 p.m. — Choco Mucho vs Chery Tiggo
After going through the motions twice, Chery Tiggo finds itself in a real fight Saturday in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Coming off trouble-free victories over newcomers Capital1 and Strong Group Athletics in its first two assignments, Chery Tiggo tackles Choco Mucho in a clash of firepower and defensive skills in the main game of a triple-header.
Both unbeaten with 2-0 win-loss records, Chery Tiggo and Choco Mucho are made up of some of the league’s top spikers but they are going separate ways when the mushroom cloud dissipates after their 6 p.m. encounter.
Crossovers coach Kungfu Reyes will be relying heavily on Mylene Paat, sisters Eya and Ej Laure, and Ara Galang as they attempt to contain reigning league Most Valuable Player Sisi Rondina of the Flying Titans, who dominated with 24 points in their previous match against Petro Gazz Angels.
Apart from Rondina, Chery Tiggo will also have to watch out for Kat Tolentino, Isa Molde, Regina Arocha and Royse Tubino and middles Chery Nunag and Maddie Madayag.
Not to be overlooked are setters Deanna Wong and Mars Alba and defense specialist Bia General, proof that head coach Dante Alinsunurin’s crew is not to be messed with.
Meanwhile, PLDT, riding high on back-to-back wins led by Fil-Canadian Savi Davison, is eyeing to capture its third straight victory against Petro Gazz in their 4 p.m. faceoff.
Raring to get back into the winning column, Angels head coach Koji Tsuzurabara will be turning to gritty skipper Jonah Sabete, who exploded for 29 points in their tough five-set defeat to the Flying Titans last Tuesday.
Sabete will be backed up by Filipino-American Brooke Van Sickle and Aiza Pontillas.
Nicole Tiamzon and Myla Pablo are also tipped to make an impact following a pair of scoreless showing in limited stints during the Angels’ previous game.
In the opener at 2 p.m., Galeries Tower will try to bag its first win against Cignal.
The Highrisers suffered a 25-22, 25-6, 25-9 defeat at the hands of PLDT last 22 February.
PLDT needed just a little over an hour to dispose of Galeries Tower with Davison firing 19 points built on 16 attacks.
On the other hand, Cignal’s Vannie Gandler and Ces Molina will try to replicate their 19 and 16-point performance in their win against Akari on 24 February.
HD Spikers head coach Shaq delos Santos will go to Roselyn Doria’s for instant offense, after showcasing 16 points against the Chargers.
