Despite exiting the W75 Trnava in Slovakia, Alex Eala saw her Women’s Tennis Association ranking improve to No. 176.

Eala absorbed a 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 defeat to Tereza Martincova of the Czech Republic in the Round-of-32 on Thursday and closed out her campaign without winning a crown, something that has evaded her since topping the W25 Roehampton (United Kingdom) in August last year.

The 18-year-old Rafael Nadal Academy graduate competed in the W50 Trnava last week at the same venue where she made it as far as the quarterfinal of the women’s singles before absorbing a 2-6, 6-3, 6-7 loss to Anastasiia Gureva of Russia.

“Tough loss today but leaving Slovakia very pleased with my level this week,” Eala posted on social media.

Eala made it into the main draw after defeating Nastasja Mariana Schunk of Germany, 6-0, 6-3, in the first qualifying match before sweeping past Iryna Shymanovich of Belarus, 6-0, 6-2, in the second qualifying match.

While her stint in Slovakia left her empty-handed, the former US Open Juniors champion is looking forward to the next meets.

She was supposed to compete in the W75 Ricany in the Czech Republic but she is currently on the withdrawal list of the competition.
